Jenny + Joshua | Adventure Elopement

Traveling Wedding Photography

When you know, you know.

And yes – we do know that’s the most cliché way to start a wedding blog like, ever, but it’s cliché for a reason! Hidden inside every universal platitude that circulates throughout generations is a totally infallible piece of essential truth. That’s why everyone keeps saying them!

So when it comes to love, friendships, career paths, lunch orders, and pretty much anything else you can think of, there are times when you see something or someone and just know, deep in your bones, that it’s meant for you. And if you’re lucky — like, really phenomenally lucky — that something or someone will see you, too, and feel the same way.

If you think about it for a bit, a marriage ceremony is, at its core, a recognition and celebration of that inner knowing – the kind that catches you off-guard and grabs your attention fiercely, so you don’t spend the rest of your life missing out on something great. The kind of knowing that is so clear and strong, you decide, in fact, that you will spend the rest of your lives together.

And then, just so there’s absolutely no misconception about the strength of this knowing, you tell everyone, from your in-laws and loved ones, to religious figures and your local courts system, that you know this is meant to be.

As is the case for the beautiful and phenomenally lucky newlyweds Jenny and Joshua, of course! Their adventure elopement was the perfect, real-life example of this very long metaphor about knowing that we’ve got going on right now.

But — because of course it gets even more serendipitous than this — there was a bit of knowing happening on our end, too.

The Shayla Cristine Photography team always falls in love with the couples we’re honored enough to meet, connect with, and then photograph on the most important day of their lives because, how could we not? There’s a built-in aspect of relationship-building that comes with choosing your wedding vendors, so that on the day of the wedding, there’s already a level of trust and intimacy.

Jenny and Joshua called our wedding photography team, because they knew, exactly one day before their fairytale-esque, woodland elopement. A fairytale-esque, woodland elopement that just so happens to be where our very own Shayla is getting married soon, too!

(The Enchanted Forest in Red River, New Mexico, if you’re just dying to know!)

Even though there wasn’t nearly as much of the build up, coffee dates, phone calls, emails, texts that normally go into developing a relationship with an engaged couple, we knew. And Jenny and Joshua knew.

We might not have the science there yet, but sometimes it really is as simple as that! When you know, you know.

So thank you, Jenny and Joshua, for feeling the same way about us traveling wedding photographers as we did about you! We’re already phenomenally lucky to be doing this kind of creative, important, and fun work, but days like these are what turn it into something akin to magic.
