Cara + Steve | Santa Fe Elopement

Real Weddings

Happy #WeddingWednesday sweet friends! We’ve spent these last few #WeddingWednesdays chatting about elopements, mountain getaways, whirlwind romances, and the like. You know, typical wedding-obsessed, traveling wedding photographer stuff!

But while we’ve been cultivating this little corner of the internet as a place for us to share the magnificent love stories we bear witness to, the rest of the world has gone on turning around us, too.

We haven’t forgotten about the difficulties our community has been facing — from our lovely vendor friends in the southwestern wedding community here in New Mexico & Colorado and all the ceremonies they hoped to be a part of, to the engaged couples who planned to get married this year.

We’ve all had a complicated 2020, but we hope you’re able to escape a little bit with us here. And, of course, we have another beautiful story to share today to make that a little bit easier!

We decided to spend today chatting about Cara + Steve’s mountain elopement because it reminded us of one of the more positive sides of the current state of the world. (It’s true, there are some tiny slivers of silver lining out there shimmering in the desert sun!) With the pace of our world slowed — albeit forcefully — we’ve all been granted the opportunity to reflect, reprioritize, and remember to care for ourselves and our loved ones.

So when Cara + Steve ended up here in New Mexico — a long way from their home in Arkansas! — they decided to act on all that reflecting, reprioritizing, and remembering. They eloped!

Neither had ever been to New Mexico before, but they fell in love with the venerable landscapes around us almost instantly. Inspired by the architecture as well, the couple knew that this was the place for them.

They looked at each other, said, “Hey, you wanna just get married?!” And the rest was history!

At the gorgeous Four Seasons in Santa Fe, where the Shayla Cristine team is a preferred vendor by the way, the couple said their vows to one another. And then, wearing the best clothes they had packed for their vacation, they began their new life together.

We can’t thank Cara + Steve enough for letting us capture their special day. Thank you for being one of our silver linings!
